For a variety of reasons that I will expound on later today on the blog, I now believe Anthony Bennett will eventually pick UNLV
Is Amile Jefferson to Kentucky likely now?
The kid from Virginia Tech (Montrezl Harrell) is staying put so he is not an option.

Permalink Reply by Jim Proffitt on May 6, 2012 at 4:52pm Look, Matt Jones is just repeating what a national recruiting "expert" said yesterday on Twitter. Jones doesn't have any original information to share on this. Remember, the "experts" - both the national experts AND SaveUK - all said that Florida was the clear leader. Remember that? Then Bradley Beal declared for the NBA draft and now we're behind UNLV and Oregon?
Come on, they don't know. When it comes to Anthony's recruiting, I don't think we will know where he's going until he actually announces... and not a moment before.
Bennett's grades, his relationship to Khem Birch, his wanting to be the #1 offensive option, and other factors are all factors in this and all guesses are just that.
Permalink Reply by BuckeyeBigBlueFan on May 6, 2012 at 7:12pm I don't always buy into Matt Jones' info, but it seems like a lot of things are making it less likely that Bennett will end up at UK. While he hints at "character issues," it seems like the biggest stumbling block for him might be his grades. If he can't academically qualify, then it seems pretty fruitless to keep pursuing the kid. I know he's the cat's meow right now, but if he's not going to be a good fit, then I (as a fan) am ready to move on.
As for UK, we shall see.

He seemed like a nice kid. I thought it was just academic eligibility issues but demanding center stage ..wow .. definitely not Cal's type of player if that is true.
Does this clear the way for Amile Jefferson to UK then?
Was AB's potential commitment to UK delaying Amile's decision?
I would think that Amile has been waiting to see if there was a scholly available to him if Bennett passed. We could really use Bennett. We need some bulk and he would fill the bill. Bennett and Jeffereson are such different players. Bennett may be having trouble with his grades too and that would be a BIG issue.
Well I guess Cadiz answered that question. Bennett is not making a very good career choice. I bet he stays at home and is at least a two or three yr player
Permalink Reply by Jim Proffitt on May 7, 2012 at 9:07am Jim, I'm really shocked about this, I don't know about you, but really shocked. UNLV and Oregon get no coverage and he wants to be "the man." I've not see him play a game where he was"the man" and he thinks he is going to come in to college and score 25 points a game. He can't do that at UNLV or Oregon and since UNLV has upperclassmen coming back, they're not going to just lie down and let him take all the shots. Cal has a very unique system, that allows each player to contribute and grow into a pro for the long haul.
