I know that there is alot of basketball to be played but we have blown out our last 4 opponents, which brings up the question are we peaking to soon.  With road games still to be played at UF, Miss. St. and Vandy this weekend will this steak continue or will we see a decline in UK's play.  I think we can still see improvement in parts of UK's game but if we play hard every game no one can beat us.  This is a complete team when they play hard, its funny to say this but I still think they will be better next month.

nah....we are just a hard working team.  you are seeing a team that is insanely talented but play with effort and focus.  the result is scary.  last years team had a missing piece or two as good as they where.  the 2009 team would take their foot off the gas and lose focus and effort for large stretches.  so instead of 20 point wins we would control the game and win by 8-12.  this team.....we just have so many weapons we are hard to slow down.  we just have to play hard.

that being said....i think we lose on saturday.  so uk fans won't have to worry about peaking!  lol

+1

Yeah. That is our problem, we are just too good. Maybe we will lose some games soon and you won't have to worry.

problem is if we lose, "so we don't peak to early" there would be "Cal can't coach", "we suck", "we can't win it all" etc..threads

No, they still can improve. They can get stronger under the basket with Jones showing more strength. He has really been more aggressive of late. They can work on their play against the zone and can get better against breaking the press. Their offense has really gotten better but they are still missing on some up close shots, They need to work on their out of control drives,  They are really bad about driving and being hit with a foul charging. They are a great team but they can get better and if things continue to hold with no injuries I certainly believe UK brings home the nets for #8

I think its a fair question, but I think the answer is "no," and here's why I think so:

We dismantled Florida without Terrence playing his best and without Darius hitting threes.  Kyle's release looked a lot more free than it has lately (which is awesome), but he's still playing a step slow on D - if his defensive game grows just 20% between now and March, there won't be anyplace for our opponents to hide.  Marquis' 12-assist night, when combined with great shooting, means that his confidence is sky high right now... and I think a confident Teague is going to become an absolute nightmare for opposing teams; he's only going to get better from here.

"Peaking" usually focuses on offensive efficiency, but defense isn't something you tend to "peak" at and then get worse - if anything, defense is a constant, a foundation... and who's playing better D than UK?  Nobody.  We can have a couple of guys have off nights shooting-wise and still win convincingly with a defense like ours.

I honestly believe that this team is not only going to improve in some areas, I think that the team's leaders are not the kind of guys that can/will relax and let up.  The other thing that's going to help us from here on in is the intimidation factor - we're playing so well right now and getting so much publicity for it that teams are genuinely going to be intimidated by that.  Once we woke up last night and got rolling, you could actually see the Gators' confidence sag.  That's going to happen more, not less, down the stretch.

This is an amazing time to be a UK fan.  Thanks to Cal, O, Payne, Robic, and all the players!!!

My 2 cents: Teague can get better making decisions against the press and tough D.  Jones can get a little more aggressive without fouling.  Miller can get a little hotter from three.  Wiltjer can get much better on his footwork on D and get a little quicker and stronger.  I'd love to see Vargas finish stronger and give us some more solid minutes, but having said all that...I'm with Coach Cal...I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!

And all that was MAJOR nitpicking.  I told someone earlier, I just look at these box scores and smile the whole time.  I mean...11 for 11 from the line!?!?  60% from three and holding a great-shooting team to 22% from three and an 80-point avg. team to under 60?!?!  INCREDIBLE!!!

some of that might not be on teague.  when the trap comes against the press, you need guys to bust their ass to the vacated area and give teague the outlet.  i saw guys sprinting down the court at times making the passes harder then they needed to be.

but overall....i dont see why anyone would really press us.

not long ago UK fans were complaining bc we weren't blowing people out
Now we are blowing teams out and the question is - are we peaking to soon

sheesh!!!!

not saying you Bart but in general UK fans might, overall, run Calipari off...
Enjoy the ride and not worry so much about the things we nor anyone can control

This is fun

again, not pointing you out Bart...just saying to UK fans in general

i hear ya!

All I gotta say is that Im enjoying being back as the dominant force we were in the 90's. Basketball world now is running through Kentucky again and regardless if we are peaking or not, its awesome to watch UK on ESPN everyday! I do think UK will probably lose another game before the tournament but Im not going to worry about it until March 15th! What a season this is and Im enjoying it. Dont take me wrong, I want to hang banner #8 just like every true blue fan but after suffering the last years of Tubby and the Gillispie Era... I am just enjoying being dominant again. The NCAA tournament is torcherous for every team now but thats the fun of it. I think the Cats can run it....just gotta enjoy it game by game.

I don't think were peaking to soon, but its just something that I wondered about after the dominate games we've played.  I love watching our team and enjoy every minute of it, I wanted to know what you guys thought, because we've seen teams that are great thru Jan, and Feb, then they go flat in March.  Considering we have one of the most dominate Defensive players in history in Davis and also MKG is one of the best on ball defenders in the nation, it would take a team effort by someone to beat us.  I still think that we will see improvement on offense but our D is awesome, the only thing I can say about our D is to rebound better, other than that there is nothing wrong.
