I'll go ahead and start a Derby City Classic thread for the All-Star game involving Poole tomorrow.

Tonight, I went to the 2on2/3pt/Dunk content --

Poole's team didn't fair well at all in 2on2, but he did make the finals of the 3pt competition for tomorrow, which was surprising because his stroke didn't look good at first, but then he got hot.

Actually he had to have a shoot off between 4 guys to see who went to the championship for halftime tomorrow - and he matched up against UofL's Justin Coleme. Poole caught fire and lit it up, hit hitting 2 or more in each rack and every single money ball. It was a nice sight.

As well, Poole was in the dunk contest. However, he did not look to be able to fly high at all. Not sure if something was wrong (he had ice on knee and street clothes on after first attempt and did not even go up for his second one). Hopefully all is well, but he did not sky whatsoever or complete a dunk.

On a side note, Justin Coleman is absolutely SICK and was by far the most talented player there tonight. He showed great offensive skill, good shooting, and absolutely freaking UNREAL leaping ability. This year's crop of talent in this game is not as good as most years, and Coleman really stood out as the best player. The second best player seems to be Ray McCallum who will probably suit up for his father at Detroit next year. Poole seems definitely towards the top though, as well.

Nice to hear Poole is shooting well. Poole is an athlete so it surprises me to hear he didn't do well in the dunk contest but athlete doesn't always mean good dunking ability. He has been working out a lot with a trainer and I wonder if he is coming into the tournament a little worn out.

Coleman is very good so it doesn't surprise me to hear he stood out. Did you hear anything about his academic issues?

McCallum might end up at UNC or at least UNC is trying to get him.

Poole is a very good defender and slasher to the basket. Could you tell from your point of view that he has a basketball looking body? Everything I've heard is that Poole, from a physical standpoint, looks like a grown basketball player.
BTW, you should remind all the UL fans there that Siva stood out last year at the Derby while Bledsoe didn't

Bledsoe started on a 35-3 team and is going to be a 1st round NBA pick

Siva sat the bench on a double digit loss team
haha very true Save.

I was the only one there really chatting about Coleman's academic issues, but he did look like he had a mean streak in him. Look like a real hard-nosed kid.

Poole looks SUPER-athletic, but more slasher than leaper. I expected him to fly but he didn't at all, so he may just be worn out. In the 2-on-2, he didn't attempt to slash that much and kind of laid back and then tried to shoot pull-up jumpers that really were not close ...at all, unfortunately. He made up for that with 3pt shooting which surprised me. He is super streaky, so when he hit one he almost always hit 2 or 3. His form look all arms, so he may be sore in the legs. In all honesty, his dunks weren't very close. First try didn't even grab the rim, albeit an extremely tough drunk. Second try he didnt go hard, and on the third one he wasn't going to get high enough so he pulled the net down with his off hand to bring the rim down so he could dunk, but still missed.

The ice on only one knee makes me think something was up with it, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Sounds like sore legs, knees, something to me. I hope he doesn't have a slight injury or anything but it does sound like his legs are worn out.
went with a UT fan, so he was real into watching Golden and Jordan McCrae. Didn't impress too much. Golden will be good and McCrae has the chance to be very good if he bulks up. He is super-duper long but extra soft as of right now.

Olipado impressed some, had the best dunk of the night, arguably, and had the highest 3pt score, but didn't stand out as much as Coleman or McCallum.

Dieng and Abraham were both there as well, and didn't impress too much. Both looked like projects with lots of potential and huge bodies, so they will probably pan out eventually.
Coleman is an bigtime academic risk.
I think one thing we can count on is that Stacey Poole can dunk. Definitely has to be some kind of issue with his legs if he had ice on his knee and in street clothes because he can definitely play above the rim.
yep, that was the dunk. You can see me sitting behind the goal in those stands next to my UT fan friend in his orange shirt.
