Donte Rumph reportedly eligible; Justin Bean is not

According to Lonny Demaree on Larry Glover's show last night, Donte Rumph has qualified and is good to go. Justin Bean did not qualify and will play at Itawamba Community College this season. Bean said he intends to play for UK in the future if he doesn't get a "better offer".

Rumph will hopefully ease the loss of Jeremy Jarmon.

That is great news! Rumph adds instant depth that is sorely needed.

Great news about Rumph... starting to get desperate at DE. Rumph showed some positive signs last year at the JV game.

Hate to hear that about Bean though, I was hoping he and the other new WR's could pump some life into this disappointing WR corp we have now. Matthews will be a big help, and so will Kendrick, but this group of players has to step big time. The addition of EJ Fields will help as well.

Willing to bet Bean never comes to UK. He had teammates sign with LSU and the Mississippi schools, betting he ends up at one of those. Always felt weird he was coming here anyway

Sure sounds like Matthews and Kendrick may both not qualify. I hate that if true. It seems like the recruits I'm always most excited about always don't qualify:

2006: Corey Goodson
2007: Mychal Bailey
2008: Donte Rumph
2009: Anthony Kendrick (if rumors are true).

I wonder what ever happened to Corey Goodson. I was hoping he would be a shut down CB for UK.

If those guys don't qualify we could be in some trouble.

Please tell me you meant Mitchell and not Matthews. I was under the impression that Matthews was good to go. Matthews would be devastating to me.

Sorry, I did mean Mitchell. Big mistake by me there.

I would sure hate to see either Matthews or Kendrick not qualify. I think both of them would have big first year impacts on this years squad! Even though Kendrick could play at the W.R. pos. I still would love to see him at tight end. You just can't use a athletic tight end enough that has speed along with strength, and in Kendrick's case can also be one of those T.E.'s that can also be a deep threat. I was starting to feel better about our Wideout core. You take a look at a Matthews, Fields,Lanxter,King,Boyd??, and of course Cobb. Then two young talented tight ends in Kendrick and Mitchell along with Grinter who is coming along. Certainly sounds better than last year!
Do agree that I don't think we will ever see Bean in a UK uniform.

I am not saying anything bad about Bean but I am hopeful that the staff will recruit over him in the upcoming class. They are taking a pretty big risk and everyone needs to cross their fingers that it pays off.

I actually liked Bean. The little bit of tape I saw he seemed pretty sure-handed and he came from an offense that liked to throw.

Is anybody getting worried yet about football recruiting for this year? I've never seen UK have so few commitments at this point. I know they're saying that they are holding out for more highly rated players but they've always done a good job of evaluating players who aren't so highly rated.

As for Bean, I didn't really like his comment about if a better offer comes. Considering the offense UK had when Woodson was QB, he should want to come to UK with Newton and Mossakowski on board. I was hoping for some more loyalty from him.

C Dogg,

I don't know how everyone else feels about Rob Gidel but he says he has never seen UK in with so many 4* guys. He says they have filled up to quickly in previous years and missed out on kids because they were full. On a side note I am saying they have three commits for 10 when you count Mychael Bailey. I am also going to walk onto a one inch limb and say even without Lindley UK will have the best defensive backfield in the leaque!

That is pretty strong statement for UK to lose the best CB in the country and still have the best defensive backfield in the country in the best league in the country. Who do you see as the starters in 2010? I'll go with Rice and Burden at CB, Guy at FS and Bailey at SS. I'm real excited about those four players. Warford will still be around too.
