According to this story below, the Cards want to move to either the ACC or Big 12.
So after all of Ricky Redbirds lobbying for teams to come to the Big East, they want to leave.

I don't know what you guys think, but I would not mind one bit if Louisville falls away into the crumbling, Big East abyss. I know some traditionalists will say that it's best when they are good AND when we're good as well, since the rivalry is so much more exciting; but I am just so damn sick of them. I live in downtown Louisville, and the city is fantastic. I just hate their fans. Luckily, there aren't too many so I only have to deal with it on a few occasions.
(side note-I wore UK gear on U of L campus a couple weeks ago and never really even got noticed. That's how different the two campuses are. Conversely, I wouldn't wish wearing Cardinal gear ANYWHERE in Lexington on my worst enemy.)

Eat it, Rick. You may as well ask Jurich and Forde to try and spearhead a movement to reinvent the old Metro Conference because no one wants you around. You aren't good enough in a typical year to compete in the ACC in basketball and you aren't good enough in a typical year to compete in the Big 12 in football.
Metro, baby!!!
That's a laugher (if that's a word). The Big Least members who had something to offer all left town for bigger gigs and your left with a bunch of no name lower level D1 schools. Can you imagine how bad the new media contract for the conference will be after the exodus? They might get half of the last one. Louisville has to find another league or they will be in real trouble trying to pay their coaches and overheads. Financially this is a disaster for them and I don't see either the ACC of the Little 12 wanting them. If Pitino leaves in the next few years, who would really want that job? It really breaks my heart for them......NOT!!!!!
Permalink Reply by C Dogg on May 11, 2012 at 10:09am UofL fans seem to think they're on a collision course to join the Big 12, notwithstanding Rickie P. I kind of hope they join the Big 12 so they don't have this delusion that they are some football power by wining in a weak Big East conference. In basketball, they won't get the benefit of being overrated by the media like every Big East team is.
I like Calipari's joke ("what's the buy-out clause to leave the SEC; $0.00 because nobody wants to leave the SEC") about the Big East and he doesn't even mention the Big East. If the Big East could build a Checkpoint Charlie to keep members in the conference they probably would.
Dogg, you know what is really funny? When Syracuse and Pittsburgh left to go to the ACC.....the new contract for the ACC became the largest in the country. Of course that is about to change when the SEC and the media renegotiate with the our two new teams, but......the media saw the draw of the two new schools for the ACC. What will they see with the new schools in the Big Least? Nothing......absolutely nothing that is marketable. Who wants to watch Temple, etc.? The rating for that league will be pathetic and with UCONN about to get flushed down the drain and Jim "I never saw a rule I couldn't break" Calhoun about to retire, the Big Least will collapse or be cloaked in "who cares" mentality.
Permalink Reply by The Krystal Ball on May 11, 2012 at 10:36am So on the heels of the story yesterday comes this one...Boise State having second thoughts about moving to the BE.
If they lose Boise State.....the Big Least will become "The Bigger Least" I don't see this conference being anything but a minor league conference that has no relevence in big time college sports. I actually see this type of issue causing the BIG BOYS to say we want a super conference league and everyone else can find a way to survive. It's also the beiginning of the end for the beloved NCAA...that is a joke of course (beloved).
