Spring Practice Report - Practice 1

The Cats were back out on the field in perfect weather to start spring practice 2010. "Operation Win" opened up practice without pads and really only provided us with a "looks" test as to what these guys can do.

- Big news is that linebacker Matt Lentz has given up football due to concussion injuries. Lentz will apply for a medical scholarship and work with the team as a student coach.

- Newton struggled throughout practice. He had a couple of…

CJ Leslie Information

New to this blog thing but bare with me. I'll just try to do a format that is more of a quick hits kind of deal. If you have any suggestions on a better way to lay out future blogs please throw me some suggestions. I rarely get on here so don't expect blogs to show up from me very often. Now on to CJ Leslie

  • He wants to come to UK
  • Doesn't mean he will end up at UK
  • Who stays at UK and other recruits UK may get won't have an impact on Leslie's…

Fan Blog - One and Done

You all can rant and rave all you want about players playing for a year and leaving. I will have trouble with these players now and in the future. I would rather have players who are interested in playing for U of K and sticking around for four years than playing a year and heading to the NBA. Just me but this team was great, but does the loss hurt, not as much as the team that lost to Duke, why, those where players that stuck around for four years. Not saying those pleayers are good, I just… Continue

Big Blue Nation Hurts

By Ira D. Combs Syndicated Columnist

This one hurts just like it did in 1984, but there was another UK basketball season in 1985 and there will be another UK basketball season in 2010-11 as well, but dang it hurts to be so close to having done something so special to have it ripped away from you so quickly.

College basketball teams that have an… Continue

A Fan's View from Syracuse

By Charles Thompson

No scholarships, just ball players. That best sums up the Cornell basketball

team. They just like playing ball.

Many Kentucky fans were worried that this little team that could might slay

Goliath in Syracuse.

To say that Cornell had the fan advantage last night at the Carrier Dome, would be

a huge understatement. Red everywhere. Near the floor. Behind the basket.

Even in the rafters.… Continue

The Krystal Ball - The Fun With Numbers Edition

Hey everyone...I will freely admit to being a numbers geek sometimes and thought it would fun to look at a few things heading into tomorrow night's Regional Championship against West Virginia.

35--- With last night's win this year's team tied the 97 and 98 teams for second most in school history. A win tomorrow will tie the Fabulous Five's record of 36. Kind of appropriate.

35--- Coach Cal tied Tubby Smith's record of most wins by a coach in their first season…

Sweeping towards the Sweet 16

By Ira D. Combs Syndicated Columnist

John Calipari and his extremely young but mega-talented college basketball team swept through New Orleans this past weekend with a swift force nothing stood in their way and nobody from East Tennessee State or Wake Forest had any answers to combat the Cats' efforts.

Going into the first weekend of play many of the…

Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down: UK vs. Wake Forest (NCAA 2nd Round)

Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down: UK vs. ETSU (NCAA 1st Round)

Kentucky opened play in the NCAA Tournament with a 100-71 victory over East Tennessee State behind 29 points from Eric Bledsoe.

Thumbs Up

Focused & Prepared- From the opening tip of this game, the Cats were completely focused on the task at hand. I don't recall seeing a player with a blank stare on their face or anything of the sort. They were prepared to come… Continue

Fan Blog - Not much love for Coach Cal

I anxiously awaited the brackets Sunday afternoon after an exhillerating game between U of K and MIss State. Takes a deep breath, wow, what an incredible game. Cal was so right when he told the kids, thats why you play every second. This team wants to win and continues to amaze others. I am personally tired of hearing how good Miss State played Sunday, you know what....UK played just as good. Their effort and intensity is as good as I have seen in a while,…

Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down: UK vs. Mississippi St. (SEC Tourney)

Mississippi State looked to have the SEC Tournament Championship wrapped up, but a last second basket by DeMarcus Cousins in regulation sent the game into overtime, where John Wall scored seven points and Kentucky won 75-74.

One for the Ages!

First of all, I don't want to hear a Mississippi State fan complain that Kentucky had to hit a lucky shot to beat the Bulldogs because I remember a couple of years ago in the SEC tournament when State's Jamont Gordon hit a 3 from his fanny to help beat the Cats. Sometimes turn-about is fair play.

Thumbs UP, Thumbs DOWN : UK vs Tennessee

Kentucky 74

Tennessee 45

How good does that sound? Just say it a few times and let it roll off your tongue - "Kentucky 74....Tennessee 45".

When I was growing up in Southern Indiana, we would call that "getting taken to the woodshed". Translation - that was a major butt-kicking by the Kentucky Wildcats over Tennessee.....or as Crystal Ball likes to say, "The Tennessee Department of Corrections". Is this the UK basketball team that fans have waited all year to see?… Continue

Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down: UK vs. Alabama (SEC Tourney)

Kentucky limped out to a slow start in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament, but turned it up a notch in the second half to pull away for a 73-67 victory over Alabama.
