Cats in the NFL - Preseason Week 3

Maybe the biggest news for this week is the signing of Glenn Pakulak by the San Diego Chargers. Pakulak who was a fan favorite at UK for his ability to lay a hit as much as for his booming leg. Glenn won the Mosi Tatupu Award as a senior at UK which is given to the nation's best special teams player, but has not been able to lock down a steady job in the NFL. Last season, he punted in just two games for Washington and saw action in eight games in 2008 for New Orleans. The Chargers most likely… Continue

The Krystal Ball - Looking At The SEC West and Some Bowl Predictions

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of The Krystal Ball. Last week I took a look at the SEC East, today I will look at the West and predicts some bowls as well.

Like the East, one team should dominate and then after that it is up in the air.

1. Alabama - The defending National Champions start the season as the overwhelming favorite not only in the West but the SEC overall. Heisman winner Mark Ingram returns along with very cabable back-up Trent Richardson… Continue

Fan Breakdown: The Secondary

Fan Breakdown: The Secondary

Background

There is no doubt that recent success on the gridiron for Kentucky football has been a good ride for all. Although moderate success for the nation’s upper tier programs, this has certainly been a positive time to be a UK football fan. Now, Kentucky players and coaches are going into uncharted waters in recent history, and that is continuing and even improving upon this success. With victories come… Continue

Gazing at Star Ratings

In today’s world of the internet, instant news and websites trying to increase their traffic we take a look at star rankings. What do star rankings actually mean? Whether fans visit Rivals, Scout or ESPN, they receive conflicting information on recruits. The truth is star rankings mean very little. College coaches put very little stock (if any) into recruiting players.

Personally, I like ESPN’s evaluation system the best, but most people use rivals when they refer to recruits or… Continue

It's KENTUCKY for Wiltjer

I think I'm ready to go ahead and say it's going to be Kentucky for Wiltjer. I've heard enough from those around Kyle to make me think it's Kentucky!

Fan Breakdown: Linebackers

In case you’ve spent the last four plus years living in Saskatoon, times they are a changin’ around the Kentucky football program. UK has been to four straight bowls and had four straight winning seasons. Expectations are high both those streaks will continue and many feel the program maybe ready to take that elusive “step forward”.

This change in mindset for the Kentucky fan base maybe evident nowhere more than at linebacker for… Continue

Cats in the NFL - Preseason Week 2

After a very productive first week for several former Cats, Week 2 saw several players struggle to make an impact.

The biggest impact came from Jacob Tamme who saw the end zone for the second straight week. Jacob was on the receiving end of a 21 yard strike from Peyton Manning in the first quarter of the Colts game against Buffalo. Tamme is getting a longer look in the preseason with Dallas Clark battling a leg injury. Tamme currently has four catches for 47 yards. Jacob also… Continue

UK will ride Coattails of the Offense

By Ira D. Combs Syndicated Columnist

Tri State Sports Media Service Inc.

The 2010 Kentucky football team will go as far as the offense will take them in the all important win department. It simply cannot depend on its youthful and inexperienced defense to do anything but hold serve this year and hopefully not give up to many big and/or cheap plays for touchdowns.

That's not earth… Continue

The Krystal Ball - Looking at the SEC East

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Krystal Ball. Thanks to everyone who made comments on my UK prediction blog. Today I will take a look at the SEC East, where it looks like the more things change the more they stay the same.

1. Florida - It has certainly been an interesting off-season down in Gainesville. Coach Urban Meyer stepped down, then came back a day later, then took another month off after beating Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl.

Tim Tebow has moved on… Continue

Cats Defense Young but Talented for 2010

By Ira D. Combs Syndicated Columnist

Tri State Sports Media Service Inc.

The old saying goes offense sells tickets and defense wins games.

With that being said Coach Steve Brown one of the holdover assistant coaches from the Rich Brooks era once again is in charge of organizing the UK defense and implementing the schemes accordingly with the Wildcats talent, this particular year he may… Continue

DeAndre Daniels will commit to Kentucky!

From talking to people on Daniels side if UK offers it is my belief that DeAndre Daniels will commit to Kentucky!

If he is offered and doesn't then sorry but it is my belief that he will accept a UK offer. I'll go out on a limb and say it happens tonight regardless if it is made public or not.

If I'm wrong I apologize and will never trust my sources that gave me this information again.

DeAndre Daniels update

This probably comes to know surprise since pretty much the same information is floating around the internet from credible sources.

What I know for fact:

UK is in the process of still looking over the transcripts.

Based on that information and other information gathered John Calipari will make a decision to offer Daniels or not. Only John Calipari makes offers to players.

Then based on what John Calipari decides he will have a conversation with Daniels

This will… Continue

Cats in the NFL - Training Camp Report

The Wildcats have one of their largest ever groups of former players in NFL camps this summer. Each week, we will track their progress as they look to avoided the dreaded Turk.

Alfonso Smith made the most of his limited touches in his debut in the desert. Alfonso carried the ball three times for nine yards including this six-yard touchdown in the Cardinals win over Houston.

He very confidently asked, "Well, guys, are you… Continue
