The Krystal Ball: Previewing the West and Bowl Projections
Hello everyone and today I will continue on with the SEC Preview. The focus today is on the West where the balance of power has definitely shifted. Two teams stand out but one of them may have a few questions to answer.
1. Alabama- (10-3 Last Season)- The last time Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide broke in a new backfield, they won a…

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Krystal Ball. Big thanks to everyone who checked out the UK Football Preview.
The East appears to be a three team race between USC, Georgia and Florida but I will give the nod to the defending champs.…

Fan Breakdowns: Special Teams
Before I get into previewing the special teams I want to give a big thanks to everyone who participated in looking at the Football Cats, great job everyone.
On paper, the Special Teams look to be a big plus for Joker Phillips’ squad in 2011 with both specialists returning. The big question mark is who will replace Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke in returning punts and kick-offs.

2011 Fan Breakdown: Linebackers
This year’s linebacker core is young, and is comprised mostly of true freshman, and red-shirt freshman. There are also two sophomore’s, and a lone Junior. Fortunately this group has two steely veterans in Ronnie Sneed and All-American Danny Trevathan. These “elder statesman” will help anchor this year’s group of Linebackers. The following is a breakdown by player.

Cats Look to Rebound in 2011

While lying in bed a few nights ago I had a brainstorm of why UK football of the 60's , 70's , 80's , and 90's was so inept for the most part during those decades except for a couple of Peach Bowl and Hall of Fame Bowl appearances .
No annual theme or slogan for all those teams .…

2011 Fan Breakdown: Defensive Ends
Defensive Ends Coming To A Stadium Near You
The way Rick Minter tends to utilize the 3-4, our DEs are going to need to be athletic, but more bulked-up than traditional pass-rushing DEs blasting in from the corners. Three down linemen (instead of four) means one less bulky body to contend with opposing O-lines. So, our DEs are going to need to be able to…

2011 Fan Breakdown: Tight Ends

Defensive Linemen don't usually get the recognition as some other positions like the QB's, WR's and RB's, or even talked about as much as the LB's or CB's on defense. But that doesn't mean they aren't just as important to the team's overall success.
This year there is a new Defensive Coordinator in town, Rick Minter. The addition of Minter to the UK Football staff is a HUGE plus for many reasons and will hopefully bring UK's defense to be one of the best in the SEC on a yearly…

Newton's Law- Forecasting The 2011 UK Football Season
Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of The Krystal Ball. For those of you new to the site this is where I try to have a little fun and predict the outcomes of games. fun.
2011 begins Joker Phillips’ second year at the helm at Kentucky. If you had said before last season, UK would beat Louisville, finally beat Steve Spurrier and play in a January bowl game, on paper it would be a success.
However the Cats finished 6-7 and the BBVA Compass Bowl is not the…

2011 Fan Breakdown: Cornerbacks
Cornerbacks.
Senior Randall Burden is 6’1” at 171 lbs and has recorded 36 tackles in each of the last 2 seasons. Kentucky is rather inexperienced at the CB spot. Burden will no doubt be the leader at the CB position. He has the experience and skills needed to shutdown the opposition. Last season, Burden played his best games against Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee. Burden will no doubt be a starter.…

Every few days I wander through spreading the gospel and trying to fire up the semifaithful Wildcat football fans for the beginning of the season. It seems a thankless job, but some one will always muck the stables while the thoroughbreds in Rupp get the celebrity treatment. Thing is, I love Kentucky basketball...when it is basketball season, but right now, as usual, it seems that more people interested in Kentucky athletics care where Archie Goodwin ends up playing his college hoops…
