Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of TKB. Last week was a pretty good one for the Ol' Ball, going 5-2. That makes the record so far in 2010 a nice 32-5.
As the calendar turns to October it means the conference season is in full swing and there are a couple of really big games this weekend.
Kentucky at Ole Miss (12:20- SEC Network) The Cats went into Gainesville last week full of confidence they could break the long losing streak against Florida, and…

Don't blame Joker Phillips or his staff for not preparing the Cats properly or setting the offensive and defensive schemes accordingly to give them a chance to pull off the upset in "The Swamp". And don't blame the players for not believing in themselves to match the Gators obvious advantage in size, athleticism, and sideline to…

I want to start of this week’s review by telling everyone to relax. Kentucky had an awful game, but step back and look at the big picture here. The Wildcats went into the Swamp and played the #9 team in the country. Kentucky was not supposed to win the game. No one circled this contest as a sure win in August. Very few people circles Florida as a possible win in August. So let’s summarize everything here.
Kentucky went to play the #9… Continue

-Chris Matthews - Two touchdowns, 114 yards receiving with an injured hand. Was the best true WR on the football field for both teams.
- Fake FG - Very well executed and looked like it really ticked off Urban Meyer. If you had this aggressiveness throughout the offense and defensive game plans might have been a little different ballgame
-Health - We seemed to make it out of the…

Florida is just better than Kentucky.
So much for thinking that Florida's offense was struggling. So much for thinking that maybe this was the season that Kentucky was going to beat Florida. So much for thinking that Florida was a little down this year.
Florida is just better than Kentucky.
Florida has better players than Kentucky. Florida has faster players than Kentucky. Florida has stronger players than Kentucky.

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Krystal Ball. The Old Ball had a pretty good week last week going 6-2, making the record for the season 27-3.
Another huge weekend in the SEC, who will win, who will lose, let's take a look.
Kentucky at Florida- (7:00 ESPNU) We all know the numbers going into this one. The Cats haven't beaten Florida since 1986 and haven't won in Gainesville since 1979. So far this hasn't been your typical Gators team and despite some…

I'll never understand some coaches thought process especially football coaches, then again, maybe that mystery is the part of team sports that intrigues us all the most. The head coach has to read his players mind before each game and decide what course of action to take when game action begins.
Still, I just do not…

Another week, another win. The Wildcats throttled the Zips of Akron 47-10 on Saturday and finished up their last non-conference game before a tough SEC slate. Kentucky looked great at times, and less than great at others, and I’ve got my post-game breakdown finalized for this week.
For the third straight contest, Hartline comes out and has a hell of a game. Granted Akron isn’t exactly going to be vying for the BCS championship, but…

Short and simple this week just like the Cats performance.
Thumbs Up:
Derrick Locke: Another great day for the former walk on as he passes the 2,000 yrd mark. Take away his injury bug issues over the last few years (and Brooks refusal to play him over more senior running backs, but hey thats an old rant) and this kids is easily settling in at the top of the UK rushing records. Instead he should end up top 5. Not bad for a defensive…

OK, we have our first three, out-of-conference games under our belts. It is often difficult to decipher exactly where we are with the football program at this point, but especially this year. We have new coaches, a lot of young talent, and we have played an extremely weak three teams thus far. This is where it is tough here at UK, a predominantly basketball school, with predominantly basketball fans. Typically, at this point of the year, there are two large camps with regards to opinions...one…

UK running back Derrick Locke epitomizes everything I like and everything I dislike about high profile college athletes.
Sometimes I don't like some of the things that Locke does. Sometimes I don't like some of the things that he says, and sometimes I don't like the way he acts.
When he walked off the football field in the closing minutes of the Cats Music City Bowl loss to Clemson last December, I thought that was a gutless, classless, selfish act. It made him look bad.…

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of The Krystal Ball. The old Ball has been hot so far this season going 10-0 last week for an overall record of 21-1. Now if only I were doing that good in the Pick Em Contest.
Quite a few big games this weekend so let's get right to it.
Akron at Kentucky- (7:00 Fox Sports South) The Zips are coming off an overtime loss to Gardner-Webb last week. Yep the Billy Gillispie Gardner-Webb. Akron may have taken over the…

Kentucky opened it's 120th home season of intercollegiate football last Saturday night when it's rookie head coach, Joe "Joker" Phillips, and his offensively talented yet defensively limited Wildcats overwhelmed the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers 63-28 in front of 66,258 of the Commonwealth's most ardent gridiron fans…

With Saturday's game come and gone, it's time for my weekly recap of the game. This one pitted Kentucky against their second in-state opponent in a row, although this time it was a WKU team in the midst of a 21 game losing streak. There were a couple of bright spots for Kentucky, but there were also a few hiccups as well.
Once again, Hartline had a great game. His final line was 16 for 20, throwing for 213 yards, 3 touchdowns, and…

Randall Cobb - Wow! What can you say? Starting to join the bandwagon that he is the best player in the SEC. Three touchdowns, 3 different ways and honestly I felt he didn't touch the ball enough. Love the passing out of the Wildcat for the second straight week. That will reap big rewards further in the season as well. Totally wished he could have gotten a score running or on kickoff for the quad or quint. If he was playing at a royalty football program…

Me-I would like to start off by saying congratulations on your latest victory over the Hilltoppers.I always like to see the Cats win especially in a big way. With that being said I would like to discuss a few things with you.
SB- Thanks it was a good win.
ME- Have you ever considered utilizing the blitz on 1st downs or in short yardage situations?
Steve Brown- What is blitz?Im not familiar with that…

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of The Krystal Ball. Last week was a good one as I went 11-1, the only loss being the Ole Miss-Jacksonville State game. Let's face it did anyone get that one right. Lots of good games this weekend so let's get right to it.
Western Kentucky at Kentucky - (7:30- Insight in Lexington) Fresh off a 23-16 win over Louisville Joker Phillips makes his home debut as coach of the Wildcats.

As we get ready to kickoff another NFL season, Kentucky will be well represented by several former players.
We will quickly recap those who were not so lucky. Keenan Burton was the most recent player cut by his team. Burton survived the initial cut down to 53 players that all teams had to make by last Saturday. Unfortunately, Burton was slowed all preseason by a lingering knee injury and was expendable when the Rams traded for Ravens wide receiver Mark Clayton on Monday. Alfonso…

- Offensive Line - 230 rushing yards; 0 sacks... that's some serious O-line work. I'd say Mike Summers lived up to the hype as a new coach. These guys just consistently knocked the UL defensive line off the ball the entire day. They also provided Hartline quality protection. Even more impressive when you think of the youth and inexperience on this line, 3 new starters were broken in yesterday and they lived up to the hype and praise heaped upon…
