Operation Win Now Turns To Operation Survive

Remember that old sound bit of advice we all have given our family members and close friends? Most things in life are never as rosy as they seem at times and they are never as bleak and hopeless as they seem at times, eventually it all settles in the middle.

It definitely applies to UK football.

This UK… Continue

The Krystal Ball- The Cats and Dogs Part Two Edition (without Allison Williams)

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Krystal Ball. Last week was a pretty good one going 5-1 making the season record 52-12.

What was funny about last week's TKB was the inclusion of the Allison Williams Demo Reel. I think it was the most viewed blog I have ever had...wonder why :)

It's another huge week in the SEC so let's get right to it.

Kentucky at Mississippi State- (7:00 ESPNU) For the fifth straight game, Kentucky dug themselves a huge hole… Continue

Cats Take A Step Backwards

By Ira D. Combs Syndicated Columnist

Don't mind taking a whipping on occasion, lord knows we've all experienced it, if you've followed UK football as long as I have. But it's much more acceptable if the opponent earns it rather than UK gift wrapping it and handing it to them.

Four turnovers with two of them being inside the UK red zone are simply too… Continue

Fan Blog: Game Day Breakdown - Cats and Dogs

After a disappointing loss at home to the Georgia Bulldogs, the Cats go on the road to face Mississippi State's version. The Bulldogs come into Saturday's game after struggling against UAB, but ultimately coming out on top to prevent a letdown following their win at The Swamp. Vick Ballard enters into Saturday's matchup leading the offense with 78 carries for 516 yds and 11 TD's. Ballard, (averaging 6.6 yds a carry), like most running backs Kentucky has faced, must be salivating at the thought… Continue

Upon Further Review: Georgia

The Wildcats had a great opportunity to take a step forward and take a stake in the race for the SEC east on Saturday. Unfortunately the Bulldogs had other plans and beat Kentucky by a score of 44 to 31 in a game that wasn’t really all that close. I would like to have a more complete breakdown of the game for you, but it was not on T.V in my town and I wasn’t able to record it for a good analysis. Time Warner sucks.

Outside of the interception in the endzone, Hartline played a great… Continue

The State of Kentucky Football, Part 2

Ok, I wrote the first blog post on the state of the program back in September when we were 3-0. Everyone, including me, were happy that we were 3-0. I wrote on some areas of improvement that I could see, how important this season was to Joker's legacy as a coach, and the status of the program in general and our fanbase. All of this, of course, is solely my opinion.

Now, we are more than halfway through the season. We are playing in a weak SEC East. I wrote about areas of improvement… Continue

The Krystal Ball- The Cats, Dawgs and Allison Williams Edition

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Krystal Ball. For the fourth straight week, the 'ol Ball went 5-2, making the season record a pretty good 47-11. Another big slate of games in the SEC this weekend so let's get right to it.

Georgia at Kentucky- (7:30 Comcast Sports- Insight Channel 14 in Lexington) What a difference a week makes. This time last week just about everyone in the Bluegrass was thinking about Big Blue Madness. Well people are still thinking about… Continue

What's that old time honored remark in the English language when referring to something that just won't ever happen? "When hell freezes over." Well, it finally did.

Thumbs Up

Mike Hartline - I've eaten a lot of crow in my day but this may be the biggest helping and sweetest tasting. Mr. Hartline played like an NFL caliber QB Saturday. His needle threading touchdown pass to LaRod King was as good a pass as you will ever see and his touchdown celebration...

Upon Further Review: South Carolina

Let me tell ya, re-watching the game two or three times and writing up these reviews is a lot more fun after a big win than it is after a crushing loss. I though the team came out flat and rebounded nicely in the second half to show some real grit in knocking off South Carolina. The offense was fantastic and the defense played as well as it has this season.

Offensively, the Gamecocks were smothering the run so Kentucky went… Continue

Superior Spurrier No More!!

Where is Devan Downey now?

What a difference a week makes.

What a difference a couple of seconds can make.

As much as UK football fans had to deal with heartache in the last-second loss to Auburn one week ago, their hearts are filled with joy and praise following the last-second win over South Carolina.

Our hearts went out to the players and coaches after losing to Auburn. The Cats deserve this win over South Carolina. They deserve this feeling. The… Continue

The Krystal Ball- The Can the Cats Beat Spurrier Edition

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Krystal Ball. For the third straight week the Ball went 5-2, making the season record 42-9. It is another big weekend in the SEC so let's get right to it.

South Carolina at Kentucky- (6:00 ESPN2) We all know the numbers here. Steve Spurrier is 17-0 against Kentucky lifetime. USC has won 10 in a row against UK and the Game Cocks haven't won a road game since winning in Lexington two years ago.

Carolina is on a roll, having… Continue

Let the Madness Begin

Big Enes Kanter and his Nike sneakers may be spotlighted on the court or on the sidelines this coming Friday night when the curtain is dropped on the 2010-2011 Wildcats at Rupp Arena in the annual Big Blue Madness festivities, only our overworked friends at NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana know the answer to that… Continue

"Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down" - War Eagle Edition

Thumbs Up:

Mike Hartline - The kid just loves the 2nd weekend of October. One year removed from the injury and his best performance at USC Jr., he comes out again with his best. He had 5 incompletes the entire night. Three of those weren't his fault so he had 2 bad passes and no INT's (or pick 6's in his recent case). Rosey Cheeks has become one of the (if not the) best pocket passers in the SEC right now. I've bashed him many times but I'll give credit… Continue

Upon Further Review: Auburn

I really don’t know what to say this week. On one hand, I’ve got so much on my mind after the game, but on the other hand, I’m almost speechless.

So I guess all the folks that hated on Mike Hartline before the season are going to have to officially accept that they were wrong. The Wildcat offense was able to move the ball against Auburn at will and Mike did a great job of not making any mistakes. People like to complain when the guy… Continue

The Krystal Ball- Can the Cats Stop That Other Newton Edition

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of The Krystal Ball. Last week was another pretty good week for the Ol' KB going 5-2 losing the UK and Georgia games. That makes the record for the season 37-7 which isn't too shabby.

Another huge week in the SEC, who will win, who will lose, let's take a look.

Auburn at Kentucky- (ESPN2 7:30) After losing a game they thought they could win, Kentucky now comes back home to start a three game homestand needing to win… Continue

Cats Come Home Needing Wins

By Ira D. Combs Syndicated Columnist

Tri State Sports Media Service Inc.

Kentucky football can be so frustrating to follow at times. Keep in mind that no matter how frustrating it is for you the fan, you can take it to another level for the players and coaches. They put in a lot more time and energy than any fan. And both have much more at stake than the most ardent fan.

Even with all the… Continue
