In sports one of the highest honors a player can recieve is to have his number retired, never to be used again. In Chicago there will be no more #23 for the Bulls, no #3 in New York for the Yankees, or #13 in Miami for the Dolphins. Just mentioning these sacred numbers and people will know exactly who is being discussed.
But what about at UK? Here at the University of Kentucky they don't retire the numbers, but the jersey's of the greats who wear them. But what if the they did retire the numbers? Who would be the very best? Would #24 be Mashburn or Walker? Would #10 be Dampier, Minniefield, or Bogans?
Would have loved to have voted for our hometown Cat, Stan Key. Great guy who graduated from high school with my husband. He was also a co-worker of mine here at good old Murray State for many years before going back to work at UK. I know in my heart though that Frank Ramsey has to be the man. Go Cats!
