In sports one of the highest honors a player can recieve is to have his number retired, never to be used again. In Chicago there will be no more #23 for the Bulls, no #3 in New York for the Yankees, or #13 in Miami for the Dolphins. Just mentioning these sacred numbers and people will know exactly who is being discussed.
But what about at UK? Here at the University of Kentucky they don't retire the numbers, but the jersey's of the greats who wear them. But what if the they did retire the numbers? Who would be the very best? Would #24 be Mashburn or Walker? Would #10 be Dampier, Minniefield, or Bogans?
I gave my vote to McCarty. Larry was a very good player. Had a really good career at UK. To me though Walter was so long and athletic for a 6'10" wing man basically. He was just a overall solid player at Kentucky. Every part of his game was pretty solid. I think if he would have been on a team that wasn't so overly talented that he could have put up some big time numbers in college. He was a definate nightmare of a matchup problem for opposing players to defend. He could shoot over smaller playeres and go around bigger guys. I don't think people gave him his due for what a good passer he was for a player his size. He seen the floor really well. Along side Walker he caused a lot of problems trapping on the defensive end. A excellent attitude. He might be at the ville but he bleeds blue!
