In sports one of the highest honors a player can recieve is to have his number retired, never to be used again. In Chicago there will be no more #23 for the Bulls, no #3 in New York for the Yankees, or #13 in Miami for the Dolphins. Just mentioning these sacred numbers and people will know exactly who is being discussed.

But what about at UK? Here at the University of Kentucky they don't retire the numbers, but the jersey's of the greats who wear them. But what if the they did retire the numbers? Who would be the very best? Would #24 be Mashburn or Walker? Would #10 be Dampier, Minniefield, or Bogans?

Here are the voting results so far:

#00: Tony Delk Vote for #00
#1: Cliff Hawkins Vote for #1
#2: Ravi Moss Vote for #2
#3: Rex Chapman Vote for #3
#4: Kyle Macy Vote for #4
#5: Wayne Turner Vote for #5
#6 Cliff Hagan Vote for #6

I haven't been able to vote for a couple of the jerseys because I don't know enough about the players listed. This is a neat poll though and I hope we will continue it through all the numbers that have ever been worn by a Wildcat.

Looking at the numbers I'd say Carlisle and Ticco are the tops.

Carlisle: 504 career pts: 1935-36: All-SEC [First Team]; All-SEC Tournament
1936-37: All-SEC [First Team]; All-SEC Tournament

Ticco: 463 pts. 1942-43: All-American [Pic Magazine (3rd)]; All-SEC [Second Team]; All-SEC Tournament

I had to go with legendary Lexington Lafayette coach Ralph Carlisle. I'm biased because I met him when I was a kid when I was with my parents at Elmwood Inn in Perryville. He was retired at that time. He is the only player I know anything about. Besides going on to be a great high school coach, I believe he was the captain of UK's team when he played for Coach Rupp.

All numbers that end with a 6 through 9 will be older players as the NCAA banned the use of those numbers.
