In sports one of the highest honors a player can recieve is to have his number retired, never to be used again. In Chicago there will be no more #23 for the Bulls, no #3 in New York for the Yankees, or #13 in Miami for the Dolphins. Just mentioning these sacred numbers and people will know exactly who is being discussed.
But what about at UK? Here at the University of Kentucky they don't retire the numbers, but the jersey's of the greats who wear them. But what if the they did retire the numbers? Who would be the very best? Would #24 be Mashburn or Walker? Would #10 be Dampier, Minniefield, or Bogans?
The Gorham name is hard not to vote for, but Marvin Akers scored 462 career points and was All-SEC first team twice and All-SEC Tourney three times. Ole Harry played four career games and had six points. He was called up to the marines at the end of his first season. Neither of the other two guys scored over 21 points in their career.
