Fan Blog - Key Player Comparison's (UK-UT)

  • Rating: No Rating

Cousins vs. Chism:

Cousins- 6'11", 260 (more like 280)/Chism- 6'9", 246 (more like 230-235)

While Big Cuz is listed at 260 there is no way he dont go around 280, another thing is that if Chism is 246 and as thin as he looks, then Cousins has got to be at least 280. The point of all this weight issue is that during the times of the game Cousins is being guarded by Chism, Chism will be extremely out matched. Both from a size and skill standpoint. The only way I can see Chism being succesfull against Big Cuz will be if he is either hitting his 3 pointers or drawing Cuz out to the 3 point line and driving past him. Also as a side note, when Cuz is on the bench it wont get much better or even worse for Chism during the times Orton is guarding him because Orton is in my opinion the teams best shot blocker and he to is much bigger and stronger than Chism. One quick scary thought for Chism is that you know your in for a nightmare game when you have to hope that the guy guarding you is PPatt who is a great defender himself, instead of the Big Monster

Advantage: Cousins

Cousin vs. Williams:

Cousins- 6'11", 260 (280)/Williams- 6'10", 278

This comparison wont take long! While Williams does match up good size wise with Cousins he does not have the skill set or the athletic ability to handle Big Cuz. Also while Williams is a bigger body he does not have near the strength of Cousins, and while Williams is a Junior and Cousins just a freshman Cousins body is so much more muture than him or any other College center I have seen in recent years.

Advantage: Cousins

Patterson vs. Chism:

Patterson- 6'9", 235/Chism- 6'9", 246

On paper this looks like a really good matchup, and it probably will be the best matchup of the game on Saturday. Both guys match up body wise and some what gmae wise, but the 2 key areas that PPatt has the advantage is that he is a better defender than Chism and is also alot stronger than Chism which will allow him to muscle up shots on the inside on Chism. Also, if PPatt is hitting the outside jumper he could give Chism a taste of his own medicine and between guarding Patterson and Cousins at times Chism will be either worn down or in foul trouble making it even harder for him to handle PPatt or Cousins.

Advantage: Patterson

Wall vs. Maze (or anybody else)

Wall- 6'4", 195/Maze- 6'3", 195

Its kinda silly to even be making a comparison with these two, but I felt like you might enjoy the humor. Maze is actually been a big surprise for the Vols, or at least to me anyway. He has provided some offensive spark at times, while at others came up with big defensive plays using his speed. Wait, did I mention speed without the name John Wall being involved? Wall is by far the superior to everyone ing basketball speed wise and Maze is no exception. When Wall plays up to his potenial there is nobody who can control him, and with the Vols having a short bench I fully expect Wall and company to attack the basket and try to get them in foul trouble. Word is though that Wall has been a little under the weather as of late, but if he is able to score 20+ with 10 rebounds all while being under the weather I will take it any day. If Wall is at 100% then i would not be surprised to see him explode for his and UK's first triple double.

Bledsoe vs. Hopson:

Bledsoe- 6'1", 190 (more like 6")/Hopson- 6'7", 200

This is an interesting matchup, Bledsoe might actually end up guarding Maze and Wall guarding Hopson simply because of the size deference. Because of the size difference, if Bledsoe does end up on Hopson than it might be an actual disadvantage for UK (more so defensively). The two area's Bledsoe would have the advantage over Hopson would be for one than he is much faster than Hopson, and the other would be that he is a much better passer and has much better teammates to pass the ball to.

I meant the word "use" instead of "was". UK should really use as fast a pace as possible.

UK should get UT into foul trouble with our size and speed advantage, and if so UT is in for a heap of trouble because they just dont have enough bodies. Its my opinion that UK should really was as fast a pace as possible without being out of control so that we can wear UT down because like I said before, they just dont have the bodies to keep fresh legs on the floor.

Prince does all the small things which is why he is so dangerous.

Fair question Save, and I meant to address it in the blog. Of course since I have done had the other 4 guys mentioned it will be the gang of Miller, Dodson, and Liggins guarding Prince, and I think Prince could be there most dangerous play maker offensively and defensively. Those reasons are why I had the SF position as a tie.

I think this is a pretty fair assessment. Of course Wall will have his way, but the real game is going to be down-low. Our bigs are going to crush UT. I look for Cousins to have another near double-double in the first half. Cousins will finish with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

I can see that we may tie at a few positions, but the mismatches at the other positions can pull UT players out of place and keep them on their toes... so the two "tied" players will have to cover their UK player AND someone else's... so yeah... no tie really exists! UK will end up having the advantage at all 5 positions.

I think Bledsoe guards Maze, Wall will guard Hopson or Prince and Dodson, Miller, Liggins will be on Hopson.
