Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of The Krystal Ball. Last week was another good one for me, going 7-0 in football and 1-0 in basketball. That brings the record on the season to 71-13.
A lot to get too this week, so let's get right to it, basketball first.
Sam Houston State at Kentucky--- (7:00 BBSN)--- After Monday's thriller, the Cats return to action in the first round of the Cancun Classic against the BearKats. Coach Bob Marlin's team is 2-0 on the season and boasts a pretty good back court.
They will probably hang around for a while with the Big Blue before the Cats pull away.
Krystal Ball Says--- Kentucky 80-58
Rider at Kentucky---- (1:00 BBSN)---- Let's face it...this game seems a whole lot more difficult than it did a week ago. The Broncs are 2-0 so far, knocking off Mississippi State in Starkville and beating Lehigh on Monday. They play Virginia tonight and I wouldn't be surprised if they beat them too.
They have been an excellent 3-point shooting team but you have to believe Coach Cal has been working on 3 point defense all week. This might be a close one but I think the Cats will prevail.
Krystal Ball Says---- Kentucky 79-71
Kentucky at Georgia--- (7:45 ESPN2)---- Now onto some football. The Wildcats became bowl eligible for the fourth straight year with last week's win at Vandy. Now a win or two in the last two and Rich Brooks' team could be playing in a New Years' Day Bowl.
To do that they must beat a Bulldog team they haven't beaten in Athens since 1977. This is probably the best chance Kentucky has had in a long time to beat the Bulldogs, but for some reason I think UGA is going to win. I am going to say this and hope I am wrong.
Krystal Ball Says---- Georgia 30-24
Mississippi State at Arkansas--- (12:20 SEC Network)--- The Razorbacks have won 13 of the last 15 against the Bulldogs. Dan Mullen's team needs this one and a win against Ole Miss next week in order to become bowl eligible. I don't think it is going to happen.
Krystal Ball Says---- Arkansas 34-21
Chattanooga at Alabama--- (12:20 SEC Network)---- The Crimson Tide gets what should be a break this week before next week's Iron Bowl against Auburn. I think Bama's starters might be able to get some rest in this one.
Krystal Ball Says----- Alabama 41-7
Florida International at Florida--- (12:30 ESPN GamePlan)--- After finishing up an undefeated conference slate, the Gators step out of the SEC for the next two weeks. First with FIU and then next week FSU. I think you could take what I said for the game above for this one. I think Tebow and company will be able to take most of the second half off.
Krystal Ball Says---- Florida 44-10
LSU at Ole Miss---- (3:30 CBS)---- The Tigers had to struggle to beat Louisiana Tech last week, while the Rebels played maybed their best game of the season in beating Tennessee.
LSU has won 7 of the last 9 in this series and 4 in a row in Oxford. The winner of this game looks to be headed to the Cotton Bowl and the loser maybe the Capital One Bowl. I think the Rebs will pull the upset.
Krystal Ball Says------ Ole Miss 23-20
Vanderbilt at Tennessee---- (7:00 ESPNU)---- The Vols need this one to become bowl eligible while the Commodores are trying not to go winless in the SEC. I think the Vols will get to 6 wins in this one and set up the game against Kentucky next week.
Krystal Ball Says----- Tennessee 27-10
South Carolina has the week off. As always feel free to post your comments and picks below and thanks for supporting Kentucky Sports Network.
