Samardo Samuels to enter the 2010 NBA Draft and other UL news. UPDATED (4/17/2010)

  • Rating: No Rating

I just got done talking to a guy (UL connected) who told me that Samardo has told the UL staff that he is thinking about entering the NBA Draft. The UL staff/Pitino told Samardo his little spill about how he doesn't think he is ready....blah blah...and Samardo told Pitino that he and his family alone will make the decision after the season is over (which shouldn't take very long...LOL), bascially saying that Pitino will not have a input if Samardo stays or goes. Samardo also informed several of his teammates that he is leaning towards going to the NBA and would be okay playing in the NBDL if he had too for a few years. He doesn't feel he is getting any better at UL or at least not any better than he would being in the NBA or NBDL right now. Pitino is apparently not very happy with this, he always thought it was assumed Samardo would come back until Samardo told him otherwise. Well Samardo did.

Does this mean Samardo will leave or go, IDK. Just passing along with I was told is the current situation. Heck it might not even be true or totally accurate. The source is good enough that if it isn't totally correct there is some strong truth to it, the details would just not be accurate. Basically I take it as Samardo has at least informed Pitino that he may or may not stay. Now which way he is leaning? IDK

Same guy told me there are serious concerns about Coleman's eligiblity. My thoughts - Pitino can get anyone into college, he has proven that over and over again.

Michael Chandler is probably going to decommit at some point. I pretty sure of that he will.

There are serious concerns that someone from UL will transfer. The guy I talked to thinks it's not totally true but if it is he believes it would be Buckles. Some rumblings about him being unhappy at UL.

Now this part the guy I talked to probably almost 100% accurate. Pitino and his staff don't feel like UL is going to have a good season next year even if Samuels and Buckles return. They are really nervous and worried about the kind of season they might have with opening up a new arena, they might even play a really weak non-conference schedule.

This guy also thinks Pitino, at the most, will stay two more seasons, he thinks Pitino maybe gone after this year but he isn't for certain about that, just his gut feeling. He does know Pitino has been looking into other job opprotunities for the last several years and Pitino has his people still looking for other options.

The Nets job is still a serious possibility eventhough nobody on either side will admit it, that is by request from Pitino.

UPDATE (4/17/10) - Notice something I said in this blog....now just wait and see what happens. I also called this in a blog in the beginning of Jan. And serveral times in the forums. Just wait, you will know soon enough what I am talking about

I had a Card "friend" point out to me last night that Gilchrist is "only a verbal" and Knight didn't "sign a LOI." First, I was a bit offended that he acted like I didn't know that. Second, I quickly pointed out that he was just sucking on sour grapes due to UL's recruiting classes crumbling... he had no response for that.

I recall reading this in January...

Coleman now has eligibility issues and Chandler is decommitting... wow.

I think everyone would agree Samuels isn't ready for the NBA but like the guy I talked to and Bostoncat said, he isn't getting any better playing at UL.

pitino knows they are likely not to be very good next year. and without samuels they lose their best inside presence. so pitino will tell him anything and everything to get him to stay.

but the reality is he isnt getting any better. and thats on both player and coach. but its the players choice to do what is best for him. he stays at UL...all he is going to do is make more layups and half hooks with the right hand. so it makes sense to me for him to leave and go somewhere and develop what he needs to to get to the NBA one day.

it could be a cluster bomb off season for ul. samuels leaves. someone transfers like buckles. coleman doesnt get the grades to get in. they will be short on talent and now short on bodies.

pitino might take a job a north texas to get away from that mess!

I don't think the guy I talked to was saying there was any tension between Samantha and Pitino, just that Samuels and his family will make their own decision, they already know where Pitino stands.

I'm not sure which would be more fun... Samantha leaving or Samantha staying and having tension with his coach...
