Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of TKB. Last week was another so-so week for me going 3-3. This puts me at 20-10 for the season and squarely on the NCAA Bubble. However with my strength of schedule I think I will get in. It is the last week of the regular season so let's get right to it.
Florida at Kentucky--- (Sunday NOON-CBS)--- The Wildcats will be saying goodbye to three seniors on Sunday. Ramon Harris, Perry Stevenson and Mark Krebs. More than likely they will be saying a farewell to three others, Patrick Patterson, DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall. I could write an entire blog on what Patterson has meant to this program and he will go down as one of my all-time favorites. The other two have been a joy to watch as well.
Anyway onto the game, a win by Kentucky gives them the SEC East and the overall SEC Title, the first east title since 2005 and the first overall one since 2004.
The Gators need this one to try to help their NCAA Tourney chances, otherwise Billy Donovan is looking at a third straight NIT bid. I just don't see the Cats losing here.
Krystal Ball Says---- Kentucky 74-64
Auburn at Alabama-- (1:30- SEC Network)-- This game is a battle for possibly the 4th spot in the SEC West. Both are coming off big wins, the Tigers over Mississippi State and the Tide over South Carolina. This should be a close one but I am going to go with the home team.
Krystal Ball Says--- Alabama 70-67
South Carolina at Vanderbilt-- (2:00- ESPN 2)-- The Commodores need to close out the season here with a win to try to keep the pressure on the Cats and a chance at winning the SEC. The Game Cocks have fallen apart here at the end of the season and appear destined for a last place finish. I think Vandy wins and goes into the tourney strong.
Krystal Ball Says--- Vanderbilt 75-62
Ole Miss at Arkansas-- (4:00- SEC Network)--- This game is for second place in the SEC West and a first round bye in the SEC Tourney. The Rebels kept their slim NCAA tourney hopes alive with a win over LSU last night. The Razorbacks have struggled the last couple of weeks but are always tough at home. I am going with John Pelphrey's club to pull out the win.
Krystal Ball Says--- Arkansas 78-73
Georgia at LSU--- (4:00- Fox Sports South)--- The Bulldogs are hoping to not finish last in the SEC East for the first time in a few years. The Tigers are hoping to avoild being the first team to go 1-15 in modern SEC play. I am going to go with the Bulldgos here.
Krystal Ball Says--- Georgia 69-62
Tennessee at Mississippi State---- (6:00- ESPN)--- Mississippi State is trying to keep its NCAA Tourney hopes alive, and a win over a Top 15 team would certainly help. The Vols are on a bit of a roll the last couple of weeks and have beaten the Bulldogs 5 of the last 6 times. So naturally I am going to pick MSU.
Krystal Ball Says---- Mississippi State 77-72
Looking ahead the SEC Tournament starts next week. As things stand now, Kentucky would play the winner of Auburn and Georgia in the quarterfinals, and then potentially a game with Tennessee in the semi's. The Vols would first have to beat LSU and then either Ole Miss or Arkansas.
The other side of the bracket features Mississippi State and Vandy. On paper it would seem to set up a third meeting between Vandy and Kentucky, but as we all know once the tourney starts anything can happen.
As always thanks for reading, feel free to post you comments below, and thanks for supporting KSN.
