Three And Out For Joker??? Looking at the 2012 Football Season

  • Rating: No Rating

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of TKB, it has been far too long. The last time I was writing something was right before the NBA Draft, has it really been two months ago already.

Anyway we are 13 days away from "The Battle of the Bluegrass" and the focus is all about football. Now about the title of this blog, no I don't think Joker is going anywhere unless the Cats win 3 or less games. I really think this team could be a lot better than last year, but the schedule is pretty brutal and five wins may be the best we can hope for.

In this writer's opinion Joker is doing very well on the recruiting front and in a couple of years UK may be right on the cusp of something good. With that in mind let's check the ol' Ball and see what we come up with.

At Louisville- September 2nd- The best thing Joker could do is win in the 'Ville and shut a lot of the trash talking Card fans up. Charlie Strong's team is the favorite in the Big East which really isn't saying a lot.

I want to pick the Cats to pull the upset but playing on the road I will go with U of L.

Krystal Ball Says- Louisville 27-17  UK 0-1

Kent State- September 8- The Golden Flashes were one of the best teams in football on defense last year..and one of the worst on offense.

This will probably be a close game for the first half but I think the Cats pull away in the second half.

Krystal Ball Says- Kentucky 24-13  UK 1-1

Western Kentucky- September 15- No one was a bigger surprise in football last season than the HIlltoppers who should have made it to a bowl game but didn't.

Willie Taggart will have to replace Bobby Rainey on offense but return 18 starters from last season.

The Cats struggled to beat WKU last year and I see a similiar game this season with the same result.

Krystal Ball Says- Kentucky 27-17 UK 2-1

At Florida- September 22- Will Muschamp's first season in Gainesville was not what Gator fans were hoping for going 7-6 but did end on a high not by beating Ohio State in the Gator Bowl.

UF should be much improved in 2012 and of course we all know about the streak, Kentucky has not won against Florida since 1986 and honestly they won't win here either.

Krystal Ball Says- Florida 38-10   UK 2-2 0-1 SEC

South Carolina- September 29- Two years ago Joker finally broke through and beat Steve Spurrier for the first time. Last season USC got their revenge by a 54-3 count.

Marcus Lattimore and Connor Shaw return for the GameCocks and the folks down in SC are looking for big things in 2012. I think UK plays them tough but Spurrier and company win again.

Krystal Ball Says- South Carolina 31-24  UK 2-3 0-2 SEC

MIssissippi State- October 6- With the new SEC scheduling UK gets a second straight home game against the Bulldogs. Year four of the Dan Mullen era in Starkville begins with hopes of breaking the top tier of the SEC West. I don't see that happening and honestly this is one Kentucky can win and I think they will.

Krystal Ball Says- Kentucky 24-21  UK 3-3 1-2 SEC

At Arkansas- October 13- It has been an interesting off-season down in Fayetteville with the firing of Bobby Petrino and bringing in another former U of L Coach John L. Smith.

The Razorbacks are 21-5 over the last two years and are loaded once again on offense with Tyler Wilson at QB and the return of Knile Davis at RB after missing last season with injury.

This is one game I really don't see UK having a chance in.

Krystal Ball Says- Arkansas 45-17 UK 3-4 1-3 SEC

Georgia- October 20- The Bulldogs start the season as the favorite to win the SEC East but have some questions to answer on both sides of the ball. Isiah Crowell was dismissed from the team but they still have Andy Murray to lead the offense.

Kentucky always plays the 'Dawgs well and this will be no different, but I think UGA escapes with a win.

Krystal Ball Says- Georgia 31-27 UK 3-5 1-4 SEC

At Missouri- October 27- The Cats travel to Columbia, MIssouri for a game against the Tigers. Many folks seem to think this is UK's chance to steal one on the road but I just don't see it happening.

Krystal Ball Says- Missouri 28-14  UK 3-6 1-5 SEC

Vanderbilt- November 3- In his first season at Vandy, James Franklin led the Commodores to a 6-7 record and a Liberty Bowl bid. There is a buzz around the program that hasn't been seen in years and fans are hoping for another bowl bid but the schedule is much harder in 2012.

If UK could sweep these last 3 then 6 wins is possible, I think they get the win here in what could be a whale of a game.

Krystal Ball Says- Kentucky 34-28 UK 4-6 2-5 SEC

Samford- November 17- After a bye week the Cats play another game against a group of Bulldogs. Pat Sullivan is the coach down in Birmingham and he brings in a squad who went

6-5 last year.

I think the Cats win this one by a pretty good margin and set up a showdown with Tennessee.

Krystal Ball Says- Kentucky 38-17 UK 5-6 2-5 SEC

At Tennessee- November 24- The only coach in the SEC who may have a hotter seat that Joker is Derek Dooley down in Knoxville. Dooley has the exact record as Joker after two seasons 11-14.

Kentucky broke the streak against UT last season and I really think they could do it again but I am going with the Vols in a win that could save Dooley's job.

Krystal Ball Says- Tennessee 23-20  UK 5-7 2-6 SEC

So there you have it, I am calling for another 5 win season but there are a couple of games who could go either way. There will be calls for Joker to be fired but I think he returns for Year 4.

I would love to hear what you all think about my picks, agree or disagree click the comment section below. Thanks for reading and for supporting KSN.

UK has three games that they should win.  They have 4 games that they could win:  UofL, MSU, Vandy and UT and I would put the likelihood of them winning those games in that order.  The UofL game is pretty much a toss up, imo.  UofL gets a slight edge because they are at home and have more experience.  UK could definitely beat MSU.  I'm not one of those people who doesn't buy the Vandy hype.  I buy it.  They should be good.  However, they have to start the season with a killer early schedule and Vandy is probably a lot like UK in regards to a lack of depth.  If Vandy has some key players injured by then, UK could actually be the better team.  Vandy is better to start the season but by the end of the season who knows how injuries will have affected both teams by then.  It hurt UK badly last year that Rumph and Cobble were both out for the Vandy game. Vandy would have still won but UK would have been better at stopping Vandy's rushing game with Rumph and Cobble  UT should have the best passing game in the country besides USC.  However, they seem to have a lot of idiots on that team and Rogers has already gotten himself suspended.  It's a long way from late November.

The rest of the games are all unlikely wins.

Hey TruBlu..I appreciate your comments. I will be the first to admit I tend to be a glass half full kind of guy and maybe I am buying into all the talk of the players so far, we will see.

A couple of those games I could have gone against UK but didnt.

I do agree with you, if the Cats go 3-9 then Joker is probably done.

Ok, first I know putting out predictions is a hard business and definitely not one to jump on someone for putting their opinion out there. So I will just do the same. I do not agree with several of these scores. While the outcomes are the same, I think this UK team will get blasted by Louisville, Georgia, South Carolina, and even drop to Vandy. UK has gotten progressively worse under Joker especially offensively. UK's defensive among good teams has never been really up to par. But I could see these scores tilting to a 21+ spread for the opponents. Its sad as UK fans we dream of a 5-7 season but realistically its going to be 4-8 or 3-9. UK is bismal in SEC play and relies for wins against very weak out of conference wins. Until that mentality changes then its the same old Kentucky Football. Time to send a statement and get serious about football and not be a Joke(r).

Thanks...appreciate it. I really think there are three games that could be toss-ups. Vandy, UT andMSU. I took UK in two of them.

YOu are right nothing would be better than getting to six wins by beating UT in what would probably be Dooley's last game.

I believe you're spot on with your predictions. I'm hoping for an upset in the "nothing sucks like a big orange game". Nothing could be sweeter than an upset on their home turf making UK 6-6 and bowl eligible!
