Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down: LSU-UK

  • Rating: No Rating

This is sure turning out to be a special season for the Kentucky Wildcats. As John Calipari likes to say, "We won another Super Bowl!" He's right! Any win on the road in the SEC is a good win, but to go on someone's home floor with their biggest crowd of the season on hand and just embarrass them is not an everyday occurence in this conference.

THUMBS UP

DeMarcus Cousins - What more can you say about this guy? He does it all. We are watching him grow up right in front of our eyes! He has learned to play within himself, play under control, and be patient. It's easy to forget that he is just a freshmen. Is there a better big man in the conference? No! Do we dare ask, is there a better big man in the country? By the time this season is over, I think everyone will also say, "No". Cousins now has six straight double-doubles, most big men don't get six double-doubles in a career!

John Wall - Everybody knows that he is projected to be the number one pick in the country, but the fact that he has gotten even better since he first put on the UK uniform makes it "scary"! Like Cousins, we are watching this young freshman "grow up" and become a very good point guard. Everyone knows he can score and fly up and down the court, but he is now doing a great job of running the team as the point guard. How fitting was it that playing in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, Wall made some "Maravich-esque" moves? The behind-the-back lay up and the bullet pass thru traffic to a streaking Eric Bledsoe was simply breathtaking.

Patrick Patterson - He seemed to be a little more aggressive offensively against LSU. That's a good sign. The UK coaching staff has been working really hard with Patterson and putting a lot of time in on him to get him to become more of a force on offense. This is still "Patrick Patterson's team". Sure, Wall and Cousins get a lot of the headlines and hi-lites, but make no mistake about it, this is Patterson's team. I think everyone would love for him to just go out and have a dominant game where he gets 25 points and 15 rebounds. Of course right now he doesn't have to, but I guarantee you that if the Cats get in "crunch time" and need a basket, Patterson is going to get the call.

Jon Hood - He hit a 3 on the road. Gotta give him a "thumbs up" for that.

THUMBS DOWN

LSU - The Tigers are just bad....really bad. LSU is now 0-9 in the SEC, and they may not be able to beat anybody. They do have a great recruting class comign in, but it's going to be a loooooooooooooooong year this year down in Baton Rouge. In LSU's last 3 games, they've scored a total of 45 first half points. UK had 42 in the first half in this one against the Tigers.

Darius MIller - Still not a factor. I really want Miller to succeed, but he seems to have digressed this season. He's lost his starting spot. He's losing minutes, and as we get closer and closer to March Madness, he might find his minutes continue to decrease.

UK's 3-point shooting - It's really hard to find something to "nit-pcik" about when you beat somebody by 26 points, but it you take away DeAndre LIggins 2-2 shooting from downtown, the Cats were only 3-18 as a team. Not good. Somebody has got to consistently hit the 3-point shot. Sooner or later this is going to cost UK a win.

Until Tuesday night when Alabama comes to down for another "trip to the woodshed"!
