Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down - WKU Edition

Thumbs Up:

Willie Taggert - Maybe the ballsiest call I've ever seen in Commonwealth Stadium. Played to win the entire game, instead of playing not to lose. Was on step ahead of the UK staff the entire game.

Weather- 75 and sunny. Doesn't get much more perfect than that. A great day for tailgating and football

DeMarcus Sweat - Looks like a man among boys on the UK WR staff. Is going to be a huge star for UK.

Special teams- Passed our 2011 season return yardage total. Yea!

Clive - He was right.

And that's that.

Thumbs Down:

Joker Phillips- Both Taggert and Phillips were hired in 2009. One took over a team with the longest losing streak in Div1, one took over a team that had just been in it's 4th consecutive bowl game, an achievement never reached before. One coach had a 70,000 seat stadium, SEC schedule, SEC TV money and at worst mid-level SEC facilities. The other has a stadium smaller than Rupp Arena (22,000), Sun Belt schedule, and the  mighty Sun Belt TV money. Yet who's team dominated whom Saturday night (not just won, controlled the game)? Not sure how you spin this one Sunshine pumpers!

Rick Minter and the defense - I see we've gone the Ron Hudson route where we don't change our scheme's we just fit square pegs in round holes. Taylor Wyndham can't play the hybrid, he can't cover, he is a pass rusher. Miles Simpson can't play the hybrid, I'm not convinced he can even play defense. So your 0-2 through 3 games this season, maybe let's lose the 3-4 hybrid and find something that can stop someone at sometime.

Sideline passing- How many times have I written this: (Once again only threw downfield  when we forced too, and had some success.) Some one explain to Randy Sanders you throw vertical not horizontal. WKU jumped our sideline routes left and right, because they new where we were going to throw. (Conversely everyone in stadium knew WKU's RB was getting the ball 75% of plays except our players and coaching staff who couldn't stop it).

Max Smith - Should have been 5 or 6 picks, just a disastrous day for Smith. But when your throw the ball 60 times, that's what's gonna happen. Combine that with last week and this 110 pass attempts in 2 games. That's what  I call a soft football team and bad coaching.

Mitch Barnhart - Your tweet Sunday was ignorant at best and insulting to the UK football fan base:

Despite the result, I want to thank the for their continued support and a great atmosphere last night in Commonwealth stadium.

Dear Mitch please explain the great atmosphere at Commonwealth: Was it the WKU fans delirious celebration? The booing of the UK coaching staff by  UK fans? or the 20,000+ empty seats on perfect weather day with no Keeneland?

It's a time to keep your mouth shut Mitch, and keep pumping rifle team and soccer baby!

Thumbs Up--It is only 30 days until Big Blue Madness.

Ditch Mitch and Rich..I think it still works since it was Brooks who made Joker the "Head Coach in Waiting."

and before anyone says "well Mitch hired Calipari" I have it on good authority he had very little to do with it.

Cant wait to hear the podcast, maybe if the kids are cooperating I will try to join in.
