TKB: The Open Week and BCS Edition

  • Rating: No Rating

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of The Krystal Ball. Last week was a good one for me and for the Cats, I went 9-0 and UK beat the Cards. We are now stuck in a painful stretch where Kentucky doesn't play again until next Wednesday, but we still have some football and some SEC Basketball to hold us over.

Oklahoma vs. Alabama- (Sugar Bowl- 8:30 ESPN)- Seems weird to not see Bama playing for the BCS Title but that is what we have here. The Sooners got here by beating Oklahoma State the last weekend of the year. I really don't think OU is that good and I believe Saban and company will win pretty easily, leading to a lot of off-season speculation on his future.

Krystal Ball Says- Alabama 31-14

Oklahoma Stae vs. Missouri- (Cotton Bowl- Friday 7:30 Fox)- The Tigers fell just short of possibly making it to the BCS Title game losing against Auburn.

As mentioned earlier, the Cowboys dropped a close one at home to Oklahoma keeping them out of a BCS game.

On paper this should be an offensive showcase as both teams can score a lot of points. This should be a close one and I am going with the SEC here. A win by Missouri would make it 9 out of the last 10 for the SEC in this game.

Krystal Ball Says- Missouri 34-31

Houston vs. Vanderbilt- (BBVA Compass Bowl- Saturday 1:00 ESPN)- It really is amazing what James Franklin has done in Nashville, a 3rd straight bowl game after there had only been 4 in 100 years for the Commodores. The Cougars on the other hand were picked near the bottom of the AAC but went 8-4 and made it to this game.

Franklin's name is popping up a lot with coaching vacancies and I could see him leaving for a bigger school. If he does he will go out a winner at Vandy.

Krystal Ball Says- Vanderbilt 27-17

Florida State vs. Auburn- (BCS Title Game- Monday 8:30 ESPN)- This is the 8th straight year an SEC team has played for the title, so far they are a perfect 7-7. This one may be a little harder to get this year.

The Seminoles seem to be far and away the better team both on offense and defense. The Tigers have gotten lucky a lot this year but I think their luck runs out on Monday.

Krystal Ball Says- Florida State 38-21

Now to some basketball, there are 9 games in the SEC on Saturday, all of them feature the SEC vs. Non-conference foes.

Tusculum at Tennessee- (2:00)- The Vols destroyed Virginia on Monday, no reason why they won't do the same here.

Krystal Ball Says- Tennessee 90-58

Richmond at Florida- (3:00 Comcast Sports)- The Gators will host a pretty good Spider team in this one. UF should still win pretty handily.

Krystal Ball Says- Florida 80-60

Texas Pan-American at Texas A&M- (4:00 Fox Sports South)- The Aggies have dropped 2 in a row including a puzzling 20 point loss to North Texas at home. UTPA isn't very good so they should bounce back.

Krystal Ball Says- Texas A&M 69-54

Long Beach State at Missouri- (5:00)- The Tigers got a nice win at North Carolina State over the weekend and host the 49ers in this one who have won 3 straight after losing 9 in a row. At home Mizzou is tough to beat.

Krystal Ball Says- Missouri 77-56

Robert Morris at Alabama- (5:30 Comcast Sports)- Anthony Grant's team needs wins and fast. They should be able to beat the Colonials in this one.

Krystal Ball Says- Alabama 64-52

Florida A&M at Auburn- (7:00)- The Tigers have been one of the biggest surprises in the SEC so far this season. Tony Barbee's club really should have no trouble with a 3-10 Rattler team.

Krystal Ball Says- Auburn 72-51

Northeastern at Vanderbilt- (7:00)- The Commodores blew a change for a big win against St. Louis on Monday night. The should rebound nicely here.

Krystal Ball Says- Vanderbilt- 70-55

Dayton at Ole Miss- (8:00 Comcast Sports)- The Rebels got a nice win at Western Kentucky on Monday night. They host a very good Flyer team and it wouldn't surprise me to see them go into Oxford and win.

Krystal Ball Says- Dayton 84-81

Rhode Island at LSU- (8:00)- The Tigers have looked very impressive so far this pre-season. In this one they get a visit from a 7-6 Rams squad who have played better teams tough with not much to show for it.

Krystal Ball Says- LSU 76-67

Texas San-Antonio at Arkansas- (8:00 ESPN3)- The Razorbacks currently sit at 12th in the country in points per game at 86. I don't see any reason why they can't run up that many and probably more against the Roadrunners.

Krystal Ball Says-  Arkansas 94-63

That is it for this week, thanks for reading. See you next time around.

Not too bad of a week, I did predict the Ole Miss loss but I didn't think they would lose like that.

Shocked to see LSU lose like that.
