TKB: The UK-UNC and Championship Saturday Edition

  • Rating: No Rating

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Krystal Ball. Last week was a bit of a struggle, going 6-3 making the record 83-15 on the season.

This is one of those fun weeks for a sports fan as basketball is going full strength now and we still have football too.

A lot to get to, so let's get right to it.

St. John's at Kentucky- (7:30 ESPN2)- This match-up has lost a bit of its luster from when it was announced last spring but still should be a good test for the Cats.

The Red Storm lost a ton from last season and will be without the services of their coach Steve Lavin, who is recovering from cancer surgery.

Hopefully the Cats will come out a little stronger than the last game against Portland. If not, look for the Johnnies to hang around. If UK is looking forward to Saturday then this could be a game.

Krystal Ball Says- Kentucky 76-62

North Carolina at Kentucky- (NOON CBS)- What a game to tip off CBS's basketball coverage for another year.

Even with the Tar Heels loss last weekend to UNLV robbing us of the #1 vs. #2 matchup, Cat fans have been pointing to this one for months.

Ol' Roy's club took another hit on Wednesday when Guard PJ Hairston hurt his wrist and will not play.

Before the season I picked Carolina to win, thinking their inside game of Barnes, Henson and Zeller would be too much. Now I am not so sure.

Look for this one to be a great game, and what the heck I will stay with my original pick, even though I am pretty sure I will be wrong.

Krystal Ball Says- North Carolina 80-77

LSU vs. Georgia- (4:00 CBS)- Now to some football. This is for the SEC Championship and a bid in the BCS title game for LSU.

Let's face it even if they lose, they will still probably be in the title game. The Tigers go for their 11th SEC Title, and first since 2007.

The Bulldogs have been the feel-good story of the year going from 0-2 and Marc Richt possibly getting fired to rolling off 10 straight to win the SEC East.

The bad part about this, thanks to the BCS rules where only two teams per conference can make the BCS, the Bulldogs won't be able to play in the Sugar Bowl.

I think this will be a closer game than many think but Les Miles' club heads onto New Orleans to play Alabama again.

Krystal Ball Says- LSU 24-14

Now let's look at some other games...

Oklahoma State over Oklahoma 34-31 but it won't be enough to get the Cowboys in the BCS Title Game.

MIchigan State over Wisconsin 28-21 in the Big 10 Game

Virginia Tech over Clemson 21-17 in the ACC Game.

Some of the other big match ups in the SEC-Big East Challenge

After the UK game Georgetown plays at Alabama- Tide wins 74-63

On Friday Florida plays at Syracuse- Orange win 77-73

Vandy plays at Louisville- Without Ezili the Cards win 75-65

On Saturday Arkansas plays at UCONN- The Huskies win 79-64

West Virginia plays at Mississippi State- Bulldogs win 68-62

Well that is it for this week, next week I will get into full basketball mode. Thanks for reading and checking out KSN.
